Title I

What is Title I?

Title I is a federal grant that provides supplemental funding for resources to schools with a high concentration of students receiving free/reduced-priced meals to meet educational goals. The grant is intended to help ensure that all students meet state academic standards.

Parents' Right to Request Information 

In compliance with the requirements of the Every Student Succeeds Act, Jefferson Houston informs parents that you have the right to request information about the qualifications of the classroom staff working with your child. If you request this information, the school division will provide you with answers to the following questions as soon as possible:

The following information may be requested:

  • Whether the teacher has met state qualification and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction.

  • Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status because of special circumstances.

  • Whether the teacher is teaching in the field of discipline of the certification or degree he/she received.

  • Whether paraprofessionals provide services to your child and, if so, their qualifications.

If you wish to request information concerning the qualifications of your child's teacher or the paraprofessionals in the classroom, please contact your child's grade level principal.

Jefferson Houston PreK-8 IB School values family engagement as a critical role in the academic success of students. We believe that family involvement means the participation of families in regular, two-way, and meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities, including ensuring the following:

  1. that families play an integral role in assisting their child’s learning

  2. that families are encouraged to be actively involved in their children’s education at school

  3. that families are full partners in their children’s education and are included, as appropriate, in decision making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their children
